Qwabe Twins celebrate culture at historic Reed Dance 2025

The Qwabe Twins, Viggy and Virginia, proudly showcased their cultural roots by joining this year’s Reed Dance festival.

The event took place at the King’s palace in eMashobeni for the very first time.

The annual Umkhosi Womhlanga has traditionally been held at the eNyokeni palace, making this year’s celebration a historic shift.

The Afropop duo joined hundreds of maidens on Saturday, 13 September 2025, to celebrate purity and tradition.

On Instagram, they shared moments of themselves preparing for the festival, as well as photos from the event.

Fans filled their comment section with love and encouragement, praising the sisters for embracing their culture.

The twins have often spoken about the significance of the Reed Dance in their lives, explaining that they see it as a way to inspire other young women.

“We are motivating and showing women our age that you can be a known musician but also preserve your purity. The reed dance is very important, and it has played a pivotal role in our lives,” they previously told Sunday World.

As is custom, maidens dressed in traditional Zulu attire are tested for their purity before being allowed to present reeds to the King.

Addressing the gathering, King Misuzulu reminded men to respect the maidens, saying: “I can’t marry someone who is the same age as my children.”

He urged the young women to speak up should any men attempt to approach them.
