Tyla at the Grammys 2026
South African global star Tyla Laura Seethal, popularly known as Tyla, has once again placed herself at the centre of music history after winning Best African Music Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards for her hit single Push 2 Start.
The victory marks Tyla’s second Grammy win, following her groundbreaking 2024 triumph with “Water,” which made her the first-ever winner of the category when it was introduced.
With this latest achievement, she becomes the first artist to win the award twice, further cementing her dominance in the global African music space.
The ceremony, held in Los Angeles, came just days after the singer celebrated her 24th birthday, making the moment even more special for South Africa’s breakout star.
Tyla emerged victorious in a highly competitive field that included Burna Boy for Love, Davido featuring Omah Lay for With You, Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid for Gimme Dat, and Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin for Hope & Love.
Released on 11 October 2024, Push 2 Start quickly became one of Tyla’s most defining records.
The track served as the lead single for TYLA +, the deluxe edition of her self-titled debut album, and showcased her now-signature Popiano sound; a smooth blend of Amapiano, pop and R&B.
Produced by Sammy Soso, Ari PenSmith and Mocha, the song resonated widely with both African and international audiences.
Momentum for the single began building after Tyla teased it during the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, before releasing a slick music video directed by Aerin Moreno in November 2024.
Its strong run on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart throughout 2024 and 2025 laid the groundwork for its Grammy success.
