DBN Gogo shares shocking revelation about ‘Minike’
Amapiano DJ and producer DBN Gogo has opened up about a major missed opportunity, admitting she was once in line to be part of the global smash Mnike before it took over the world.
Speaking during an interview with SlikourOnLife, the star reflected on how the now-iconic track first landed in her inbox through Tyler ICU.
At the time, he was seeking her input and even hinted at collaborating on the song.
“Mnike, I’m gonna tell you now, fun fact, Tyler sent me that song. I can’t even tell you what happened. It was also in the thing of sending a lot of music and he’s like, ‘Gogo, what do you think of this? Let me know, I want you to be part of it.’ Regrets, regrets!” she shared.
The song, which went on to feature Tumelo.za, Nandipha808, Ceeka RSA and DJ Maphorisa, exploded into a global anthem, dominating charts and going viral across social media platforms.
Looking back, DBN Gogo admitted the moment still lingers as one of those career “what ifs,” explaining that the opportunity simply slipped through during a period when she was receiving a high volume of music.
Despite the regret, she made it clear there are no hard feelings, praising Tyler ICU for creating what she believes remains one of the biggest Amapiano songs ever released.
“Congratulations to him. That’s the biggest Amapiano song in the world, I think, still to this day,” she added.
“Mnike” has since become a defining track for the genre, helping push Amapiano onto the global stage and introducing new audiences to the South African sound.
While DBN Gogo may have missed out on that particular moment, she continues to play a significant role in shaping and exporting the genre through her own work.
