“IMALI” by Fireboy DML, JAZZWRLD & Thukuthela is a cross-continental collaboration that brings Nigerian Afrobeats together with South Africa’s emerging 3-Step sound. The title, meaning “money” in isiZulu, ties the song to themes of ambition, hustle and the pursuit of success, while Fireboy’s melodic style gives the record a distinctly Nigerian character.
JAZZWRLD, Thukuthela, GL_Ceejay recently appeared on iMpilo Yam’.
Produced by JAZZWRLD, the track is built around a rhythmic 3-Step foundation with deep bass, layered percussion and atmospheric electronic elements. Fireboy delivers smooth, expressive vocals over the dance-driven production, while Thukuthela adds a distinctly South African vocal presence, creating a natural exchange between the two musical cultures.
Overall, “IMALI” is a polished Afrobeats and South African dance-music fusion that balances Fireboy’s melodic warmth with the deeper rhythmic character of 3-Step. It makes for an energetic yet soulful listen, fitting comfortably into Afro-dance playlists, late-night sessions and contemporary African music sets.
