Amapiano continues to dominate and redefine the global music landscape, with 2024 standing out as a transformative year. From chart-topping hits to groundbreaking performances, this uniquely South African sound has not only sustained its momentum but also expanded its influence worldwide.

In this article, we celebrate the standout contributors to Amapiano’s remarkable journey in 2024. From record producers and DJs to vocalists who have captured the hearts of fans. The list is presented in no particular order and, while we’ve highlighted some impactful names, there are undoubtedly other artists that shaped 2024 who may not have been included.

Uncle Waffles

Uncle Waffles’ contribution to Amapiano as a female DJ cannot be overstated. Her efforts in elevating Amapiano to the global stage in 2024 included tours that brought her to countries rarely visited by Amapiano DJs. She successfully headlined concerts in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and across Europe, among others.

In addition to her touring success, Uncle Waffles released the summer anthem Wadibusa and followed it up with new tracks BAPHI and UYAH, which are gaining momentum in 2025. Notably, she made history as the only DJ headliner and the first DJ in eight years to perform on the main stage of the Wireless Festival.

Kelvin Momo

Kelvin Momo continues to dominate the New School Amapiano scene with the release of not one, but two full albums in 2024: Sewe and Ntsako. The 30-year-old record producer also collaborated with Stixx on the joint EP Jazz Cruise Series Vol. 1.

Many tracks from his LPs have amassed millions of streams, with some even setting new records.

Kabza De Small & DJ Maphorisa

While the Scorpion Kings may no longer dominate the Amapiano scene as they once did, they continue to leverage their platform to reach audiences worldwide, even touring as far as Australia in 2024.

Beyond their own success, they have created opportunities for emerging artists to thrive—one of their most enduring legacies. Their track Biri Marung, an instant hit, has cemented itself as an Amapiano essential.

Focalistic

Focalistic continues to be a significant figure in the culture. His verse on Biri Marung is nearly iconic, and in 2024, he helped several Amapiano artists achieve hits, including his girlfriend, Pabi Cooper, with the track Papi Jo. He also released an extended play titled 13 POS, while his protégé, DJ Tshegu, made headlines of their own.

Scotts Maphuma

Scotts Maphuma arguably had the most hit records of any Amapiano artist in 2024. Everything he touched turned to gold throughout the year.

Among his many hits are Yebo Lapho with Felo Le Tee, Phuthuma with Cyfred, eGoli with Melo & Sleazy, and Biri Marung, to name a few. He also released an EP titled PIATO.

Lee McKrazy

If 2024 Amapiano had a cheat code, it would be Lee McKrazy. Every song he appeared on soared to the top of the charts. He kicked off the year with strong collaborations alongside record producer Tyler ICU, who also features on this list.

Lee McKrazy is associated with some of the biggest hits of 2024, including Ebasini by Tyler ICU, Yebo by TxC, and Funk 99 by Shakes & Les, to name a few.

Shakes & Les

Shakes & Les’ Funk Series EP featured two standout releases in 2024: Funk 99 and Funk 55.

While the production duo may not be the biggest names in the culture, they certainly made their mark during the year in review.

Tyler ICU

Record producer Tyler ICU kicked off 2024 with a series of releases under the Wav.files banner. This collection produced wave anthems like Ebasini, Jealousy, and Manzi Nte, among others.

Tyler ICU also played a pivotal role in Lee McKrazy’s incredible run of success. The Thembisa-born producer further showcased his talent with the release of the EP Vincent.

Tito M & Yuppe

You’ve probably heard of Tshwala Bam—the record that took the world by storm in the spring of 2024. Performed by Tito M & Yuppe, the track became a global sensation, leading to the release of an album with the same name. The Tshwala Bam remix, featuring Burna Boy, further cemented its success.

Zee Nxumalo

Zee Nxumalo, who turns 22 today, is the only female vocalist on this list. After gaining attention with Funk 55 in 2023, she maintained her momentum and capitalized on her rising popularity by releasing impressive collaborations.

One standout track is Ama Gear with Dlala Thukzin, which became a fan favorite in 2024. Zee Nxumalo released her debut Inja Ye Game in 2024.
