Over time and with efforts, South Africans have spread the wings of their music over countries and left a trademark.

South African music now appears on TV shows, adverts, promotions, movies, and a lot more. Making a shortlist of artists and their songs that made it to movies’ soundtracks, we present South African soundtracks that appeared in movies.

1. Babes Wodumo – Wololo ft. Mampintsha (Black Panther 1)

Babes Wodumo as the Queen of GQom made it to the famous Africa movie titled Black Panther. The song was played when the acts, Shuri and Tchalla were in the laboratory preparing for the Korean mission.

This was South Africans pride as at the time the movie was released as they were proud of hearing their very own Queen on the movie.

She also made it to the official soundtrack list with Kendrick Lamar on a track titled Redemption featuring Zacari.

2. Sjava & Reasons – Seasons (Black Panther 1)

It came as a shock as South Africans heard Sjava rap in English on the Black Panther soundtrack with Moozy and Reasons. The song came joyfully at the end of the movie where more attention was drawn to it.

3. Berita – Ndicel’ikiss (Holiday In The Wild)

Despite much criticism on the movie, Berita still made it to the American Christmas romantic comedy with her 2019 track.

4. Nasty C & Ari Lennox – Black And White (Coming To America 2)

Ari Lennox played her best in making the rapper’s track a success. The track came from his album titled Zulu Man With Some Power. The track made it to the official tracklist of the Comedy and famous movie, Coming To America by Eddie Murphy.

5. De Mthuda & Njelic – Shesha (Coming To America 2)

The song is one of the few Amapiano songs that made it to top movies in the world. The song also officially appeared in the Comedy movie titled Coming To America which was zipped in a file titled Rhythms Of Zamunda. Other artists on the tracklist are Gemini Major – Loke Loke ft. ANATII, Ricky Tyler – Everything, Tiwa Savage – Dangerous Love (DJ Ganyani Amapiano Radio Edit Remix), Prince Kaybee – Fetch Your Life (ft. Msaki), Tellaman – Overdue ft. Sha Sha & Oxlade.

Additional information: One of the interesting and hidden things about Black Panther 1 is Trevor Noah voicing the automatic drone Suri made for the American invader.

6. Zola (Tsotsi)

Tsotsi was about a young street thug who stole a car only to discover a baby in the back seat. The movie was a crime drama film and an adaptation of the novel Tsotsi.

The soundtrack for the film featured Kwaito music performed by South African artist Zola as well as a score by Mark Kilian and Paul Hepker featuring the voice of South African protest singer and poet Vusi Mahlasela.

The rapper also appeared in a movie titled Drum, playing the part of Slim, the Sophiatown gang leader.
